My niece, constant subject of my conversation and fascination is already talking. She is 13 and a half months old. I do not know know what is “normative,” but she is, my mother says, a linguistic genius like her aunt. My mom reported hearing Clara speak her first word yesterday “straight from the horse’s mouth” though Bryan and Setou had heard her make some utterances here and there, writing this:
“Took Clara for a walk this afternoon to get a snack. MeMe was the hungry one, but that is not the point of this story. I was asking her if she wanted some goldfish, and, surprise surprise — she said ‘golfis’ ! MeMe was so proud!”
I am of course proud of Clara too. I’ve got beams of love and pride radiating from my very being.
