His Holiness the Dalai Lama, upon being asked what he has found surprising thus far in life, responded:
“Man (sic), because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices his money in order to recuperate his health. Then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present, the result being that he does not live in the present or the future. He lives as if he is never going to die. Then he dies having never really lived.”
Think on that for a moment and ask yourself, how are you living, and in what tense? Past? Present? Future? Or are you not living at all, but merely surviving in a mode that can be adequately described as tense, doing damage to your body, soul and relationships? I don’t know about you but I have no intention of surviving or even living — I have every intention of thriving.
